About

My name is Xavier V Lafont, and I’m a game designer and music composer. I’m currently a Masters student in the Media Technology and Games program at the IT University of Copenhagen, where I’m working on my thesis. I completed my Bachelor studies at Colgate University, where I studied music composition and Japanese.

On this site you can find some of the games I’ve worked on, music that I’ve made, and thoughts I have had. I’m currently blogging about the development of my pet project, so you can follow that too.

My main interest is in game design, both physical and digital. I am particularly interested in prototype design: it may just be the coolest thing ever. I also like making music, and doodling. Combined with a little background in programming, I have a nice mix of skills for creating digital things. It’s fun! Also, menus. Menus and menu design are awesome!

Through my university courses I have become a bit more interested in the academic and scholarly side of games. I believe that games say something about our cultures. What that is, however, I don’t know yet. For me this belief is largely framed by my background in Japanese RPG’s, a genre which I find is underappreciated and maybe even deliberately ignored in the Western academic circle.

While at university I had a great time as a teaching assistant: I very much enjoyed teaching and communicating ideas to students. As a result, education is something I am a little interested in.
